If your PDF opens without asking for a password but won’t let you print or copy text, Llaves may be able to prepare a separate copy without those restrictions. Your original stays on your device, unchanged.
Check your PDF for free. If a supported copy is ready, downloading it costs $9.99 USD before tax. There is no account or subscription requirement. Failed preparation does not create a charge.

Save and check the result
- Choose your PDF on the recovery page.
- Wait while Llaves checks it and tries to prepare a copy on your device.

- Keep the file tab open during payment.
- Download the PDF and check its pages, printing and copying in your usual app.
If another option is available, the form explains what it does. You don’t need to choose a file type or understand its encryption.
Does it also find the password?
This method creates a copy without printing/copying restrictions. It does not find the original password. If the PDF won’t open without a forgotten password, read about PDF password recovery instead. The same file-check form can identify those options.
If you already know the opening password and simply want to remove it, use an app that accepts that password and saves a new copy. Llaves does not currently accept a known opening password.
Will my PDF be uploaded?
No. The file and prepared copy stay on your device. An internet connection is needed to pay and confirm payment; billing uses a private reference to match the purchase to your file. It does not receive your PDF, its filename or the prepared copy. Read the privacy details.
What if it can’t prepare a copy?
Some PDFs aren’t supported, even when they open normally. You have not been charged for the check or unsuccessful preparation. Ask the sender for an unrestricted copy. If the file may be damaged or incomplete, try a fresh copy of the original.
Format limits and checking your download
Supported files use Standard PDF encryption revisions 2–6 and open without a password. Inputs must be no larger than 16 MiB (about 16.8 MB). Compressed object streams and some other variants are unsupported. The free check identifies these details for you.
Keep your original until you have checked the downloaded copy. Removing encryption invalidates digital signatures. Embedded scripts and attachments are preserved; this tool does not remove potentially harmful content.
QPDF’s documentation on PDF encryption explains the distinction between opening passwords and restrictions on printing or copying.
